Book Review: Kiriti Sengpta's "A Freshman’s Welcome"

Dictum and Dialectics of "A Freshman’s Welcome"

Closing your eyes, just think about a fresher’s poetry. It is confusing as well as agonizing to write a review on it. We become confused, as because we are not honest. Can you imagine publishing a preview-book on/of a newcomer poet? It seems really tough in Bengali culture.

The book "A Freshman’s Welcome" intends to exploit ‘backstage stories' of poets. Nowadays ‘Poetry’ has become a residual job for economically empowered people. It provides a glamorous effect. Hence, it is quite impossible to believe in the existence of a poet who chooses poetry as a career option. On the other hand, "poetry has limited readership." This is the background where 'A Freshman’s Welcome" starts its journey.
Author Kiriti Sengupta has an instinctive ability to hold readers’ hands with lucid sentences. He has a great sense of 2Ps- 1) Poetry and 2) Promotion. A proper amalgamation of these 2Ps could provide stimulation among the limited readers of poetry. A new trend of modern publication in recent years has been the large-scale promotion of books through the preview and review, which often sensitizes the readers about an author and his/ her creation. The book "A Freshman’s Welcome" has enough potential to mobilize masses for Tanmoy Bhattacharjee’s "Heights of Life."
Historically speaking, Bengali poets have an ancient tradition to split up into parties. Here is an exception. You may miss that blind support. Kiriti remained honest to introduce Tanmoy.
In "Tanmoy & I," Kiriti siphoned an outline of the entire journey by explaining "What goes on behind the scenes between writers," as editor Don Martin advised.
In "Tanmoy and Poetry," and "Tanmoy’s Heights of Life," the author intends to highlight Tanmoy’s poetry with analytical dimensions.
Narrative approach with a recapitulation of memories has been adopted for the purpose of "Fresher’s Introduction." Personal experience exploration and proper citation are the integral part of this sixteen-page book. The book also thoroughly analyses the constraints faced by the newcomers. Finally, the back cover of the book promotes Tanmoy Bhattacharjee’s ‘Heights of Life’ in a pictorial form.
