Oblique Curves Vol-1, No-2

Highlight of the month: February

Month of Saint Valentine
Saint Valentine’s Day or Feast of Saint Valentine is now popularly known as ‘Valentine’s Day. Couples celebrate 14th February as ‘Valentine’s Day.

Love, lovers and their emotion did gain their momentum all over the world during 14th February, popularly known as ‘Valentine’s Day’. Saint Valentine was a Roman priest (270 AD), used to work with the young soldiers. The Roman Emperor restricted marriage for the soldiers. But Valentine openly tried to make people understand that young soldiers should marry. He was considered an insurgent of ‘Imerio Romano’ and finally beheaded on 14th February, during Roman festival ‘Lupercalia’. Too many legends and myths are often creating doldrums. Some of the historians believe that ‘Saint Valentine’ and ‘Lovers’ Day’ have no connection. Probably, ‘Valentine’s Day Card’ was the first greeting card in the world. Margery Brews (during 1477) wrote a letter to Robert Herrick: ‘Right worshipful and well beloved Valentine”. It was the oldest known letter, having the term ‘Valentine’.
In Italy and France, there were some spring festivals, having similarity with today’s ‘Valentine’s Day’. ‘Valentine’s Day’ myth is also associated with the stories of the soldiers of civil war.
Today ‘Valentine’s Day’ is conceived with a feeling to celebrate a whole day with valentine. Greetings Card, Chocolate, Wishes, Party and celebration are the integral part of ‘Valentine’s Day’. But some traditionalist and postmodernist are standing against of such celebration.

The volunteers of AAP told that it was the victory of ‘Aam Admi ‘(Common Man). It is the first big blow to the PM N. Modi and his party BJP since they are in power (May, 2014). After this tsunami, Arvind Kejriwal opined, ‘’we will always walk the path of truth… It is very scary, the kind of support the people of Delhi have given us."
